Selective hearing...Not necessarily a bad thing

Protecting your hearing isn’t just about blocking out sound. If you’re performing or listening to music, what isn’t blocked out is equally important. Our level attenuating hearing protectors let you hear all of the detail, character and atmosphere of the music in a safer, quieter way.

What does ‘level attenuating’ mean?

Conventional hearing protectors attenuate, or reduce, outside sound levels, but their problem is they can’t reduce the levels equally and cut out more high frequency sounds than they do low frequency sounds. This means that everything sounds muffled and distorted. That’s OK if you’re operating a chain saw, but if you want to play or listen to live music, you need to hear everything in balance.

Our custom made ER-Series level attenuating hearing protectors reduce all sounds equally, so it’s just like turning down the volume
without sacrificing any of the definition of what you want and need to hear. ACS ER custom-fit hearing protectors produce the flattest level attenuating characteristics of any hearing protector in the world. They’ve been independently tested by BSI (British Standards Institute) for accuracy and to conform to EN352-2 (ER15 and ER25), the European standard applicable to hearing protection products supplied within Europe.

The chart below shows the attention characteristics of our ER range as tested by BSI, the bottom axis shows frequencies from low to high (left to right) against the amount of sound that it cuts out at that frequency (the attentuation) measured in dB. As you can see, a standard foam plug gives hugely different attentuation dependant on the frequency which is why you can hear a lot of low frequency sound and not much else. In contrast, the ER filters give a much more level result across the board without being exposure to excessive sound pressure.

Interchangeable filters let you choose the amount of sound reduction that  suits your own requirements or even change the filters over depending on your environment.

ER9 - Recommended for light noise exposure and accoustic musicians providing and average of 9dB protection.
ER15 - Recommended for most musicians playing amplified music providing 15dB protection.
ER25 - Recommended for highly amplified performances and drummers providing 25dB protection.
