Alice Powell uses T-Series

Oxfordshire racer Alice Powell recently undertook her first race on the Valencia Street Circuit for the European Grand Prix.

Alice ended the 40 minute session in 9th place on the Friday practise (her highest ever placing in GP3 Series to date), and finished 11th on Saturday's qualifying. Despite a good start, a series of unfortunate events including a crash resulted in a premature ending to Alice's race.

Commenting on the weekend, Alice said “This weekend has been tough. It started out well, and it shows I am getting closer and getting used to the GP3 car. The races were very action packed and I am gutted that we did not get a decent result. The crash in Race Two was quite painful. I have had my back checked out and all is fine apart from bad bruising on my heels. Huge thanks again to my sponsors and everyone at Status Grand Prix. Hopefully I can reward them with a great result soon ”

Alice is one of our latest additions to use ACS monitors in a racing environment.

She commented on Twitter about her new ACS monitors: 'My T3 earpieces courtesy of @ACSCustomUK ! So comfy & great colour'.

ACS T3™ Single Driver In-Ear Monitors are small, lightweight, discreet and with exceptional accuracy. Alice chose these monitors to be colored a bright fluorescent pink with the ACS logo on the face.

ACS Go Live @ Jodrell Bank

ACS went off to the Jodrell Bank Observatory for the Elbow and Paul Weller gigs on the 23rd and 24th of June amidst a national downpour that threatened practically evey outdoor music event for the weekend. While the BBC's Hackney weekend seemed to go pretty much according to plan and the Isle of Wight was turned into a giant muddy car park we joined a crowd of stalwart Elbow fans to pay homage in the rain at a showery visual spectacular.

We spent a relatively sunny day backstage carrying out hearing tests and advising production staff about the PRO Series hearing protection as well as introducing them to Live! Series in-ear monitoring solutions.

As you can see from the picture above, the sunny spells didn't last but the show wasn't dampened as the giant Lovell Telescope turned to become an enormous projection screen and the show-end fireworks went off without a hitch.

Unfortunately the site became impassable after everyone struggled to get off site leaving the organisers no option but to cancel the event scheduled for Sunday on what turned out to be a blissfully sunny day. Here's hoping the summer arrives some time soon!

ACS supply the Olympic Torch Relay

Not sure if you have heard about it but this summer Britain is hosting the Olympics and the traditional torch relay has set off from Olympia in Greece today. It arrives here in the UK on Friday May 18th and takes a 70-day relay around the UK.

Coca Cola is an official major sponsor of the Olympics and their event staff has the titanic job of organising the relay up and down the UK visiting 1,000 cities, towns and villages over 70 days. During the trip there will be a music event in almost every city with a variety of artists including Elbow, Emili Sande and Ed Sheeran.

The Coca Cola staff have quite a task on their hands so reliable equipment is paramount. They have chosen ACS to supply PRO20 earplugs with a T15 to plug into their moulds for radio use. They are using Motorola radios with a digital adapter to connect to a cable solution that includes a push-to-talk microphone and a female 3.5mm jack for the T15 to plug straight in to. Here’s a picture of how their branded PRO20s look…

We wish the team the best of luck throughout the relay!

Live & Local…

As we’re a British company, making handmade custom products, we wanted to spread the home-grown spirit a little and so will be following the journey and successes of one of our local artists.

Our featured artist for 2012 is the wonderful Aurora J Young – based up the road from our office, but destined to tour all over the world, Aurora’s brand of blues and soul-inspired pop was right up our street. Almost literally.

She’ll be updating us regularly with what’s going on – starting right now. Enjoy!

A word from Aurora…

“The launch of my debut single 'Charmer' has arrived! It is with great pleasure that I can announce the long awaited release can be purchased from iTunesAmazon & Bandcamp as of March 12th 2012.

Written on Valentine’s Day 2010, 'Charmer' is a literally a labour of love. The music was originally written by my good friend and the massively talented John Gardiner. I wrote the lyrics and vocal lines and then developed the arrangement with my band over about 18 months. Although it has taken a while, we have still been working on the album in-between and the first release had to be of a high standard…!

I have worked with some incredible musicians, sound engineers and producers to bring you the first track from my debut album. Along with Stevie Matt Cooper - the core of this project - we collaborated with Hugh Edwards on drums, Michael Bennion on Bass, Grant Ray Fox & Danny Young on guitar and George Shilling on Cello. Charmer was recorded at Snap! Studios, Frequency Studios and Bank Cottage Studios by Peter Junge, Aaron Maguire and George Shilling.

I will be performing an intimate acoustic set at the Also Known As bar in Banbury on Thursday 15th March to celebrate the launch. I  Charmer CD Artworkwill be supported by Stevie Matt Cooper performing a solo set of catchy folk songs and Ben Adams & Andy White will be strumming out some rock and soul covers. It all kicks off at 8:00pm and entry is free!

More live dates are currently being announced on my website so keep an eye out for those."

Awareness!® The Headphone App

Awareness! is an app that allows headphone users to hear what’s going on around them while listening to music (or any other audio) on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Awareness! uses the iPhone’s built in microphone or your headset’s inline microphone to analyze your surroundings and overlays any important sounds in your headphones over your music or audio book. (for outdoor use an inline headset mic is required)

You can set a mic threshold level so that the mic is only switched on when a sound is louder than your background noise.

Awareness! lets your hear when the person next to you talks, or if you are out walking or cycling, when a car or truck blows its horn.

Awareness! works brilliantly in most situations, however if you’re standing close to loud machinery or are in an environment where the noise levels are particularly high, the microphone may be inadvertently triggered.

In situations like this, its best to turn the microphone on continuously (by tapping the mic icon) and turning the mic volume down to an acceptable level while still being able to hear environmental noise, this allows you to hear any important sounds or changes in your surroundings while using headphones.

It may also be advisable to use the AutoPause or ducking features. Note: We never advise the use of headphones or earphones anywhere where danger may be present, Awareness! does not replace common sense.

EMA2011We were at the MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) at the beginning of November backstage with the artists and staff taking ear impressions and giving demonstrations of the Live! series IEMs ahead of the official launch at the start of December. The EMAs is an annual event that celebrates the best pop acts around the world voted for by MTV viewers. We were located in the dressing room area and spent Saturday and Sunday talking to artists, engineers and event staff about everything hearing protection and in-ear monitoring related.

For most of Americans it was the first time they had seen our products and it is fair to say they were pretty excited by what they saw. As a result we made some great contacts with US musicians, not only are LMFAO now using ACS products we have Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber's tour crew using our IEMs and hearing protection so it was definitely worth the trip over to Belfast for the weekend.

Oh and look who else took the chance to get some PRO 17s...

ACS @ Global Gathering

On Friday 29th and Sat 30th of July ACS went to Global Gathering in Stratford. with the festival running for its 11th year in a row and with figures reaching around 50,000 people in 2010, 2011 was bound to be a big one! Tim and Adam were there from start till finish where acts such as Beardy Man, Swedish House Mafia and Tiny Tempah were performing.

We had the pleasure of being situated near BPM who were doing all of the special effects such as fireworks loud bangs and pyrotechnics etc also a few of their employees purchased our ER and PRO Series ear plugs as they were highly recommended by their colleagues and friends.

ACS were behind the main stage talking to customers, offering advice and also free hearing tests to artists, musicians and workers. We provide an on-site festival service to all types of music events across the UK. We were taking ear moulds for all types of poeple, from Photographers to event organisers security staff and the DJ’s themselves. Festivals are a great way to meet all different types of people involved in music events and ACS really enjoy being a part of this.

For drummers requiring IEM’s and playing to click tracks, ACS would reccommend using our T2 Monitors as they maintain a clear and crisp treble sound and also gives a great bass response with our seperate bass speaker.

Did you know...

You can turn your custom earplugs into in-ear monitors?

I feel compelled this week to write about the T15 IEMs for a couple of reasons. Firstly because it has received some impressive reviews recently and we’re very pleased that our first foray into the world of generic fit IEMs has gone down so well., a website dedicated to in-depth reviews of consumer technology said ‘Runners will find the small design and superb silicon tips deliver a fit that doesn't slip, frequent travelers will love the noise isolation that means they don't need to ratchet up the volume to hear their music and the flush finish means some people could even wear them in bed.’ They went on to score the T15 10 out of 10, something that doesn’t happen very often. Read the full review here
Since the reviews have appeared online we’ve began to get more calls from customers asking if the T15 can be customised just like all of our other IEMs and the answer is yes, this is how…
 ACS T15

We’ve designed the T15 with a tip the same shape as the filters for our PRO series hearing protection so that customers that have our earplugs can adapt them to IEMs with a T15. Many musicians or general music enthusiasts have earplugs from us and ask about the IEMs so the T15 is a perfect solution. If you’re reading this thinking ‘damn, I’ve got ER series earplugs’ don’t look away just yet. We provide an adapter free of charge that allows the T15 to fit inside the ER moulds so no matter what ACS earplug you’ve got you can get a T15 to fit.
If you’re in the Banbury or London area and already have a pair of our earplugs then why not book an appointment to have a listen to the T15… you won’t be disappointed!

Check out the T15 here

Rather Busy I'd Say...

Wow! Feels good to have a moment to write this update and reflect on what’s been going on at ACS...

First off, after many years of research and development we are proud to present the new T Series Live! All details can be found in the In-Ear Monitors section at the top of the website. We felt that this product was ready to be presented to the world now but what is to come is the best part....

Every T1 Live! has a pair of built-in, sub miniature, wideband, flat response microphones! Interfacing our new ambient sound processor between the wireless belt pack and your T1 Live! in-ear monitors, will allow you to introduce and adjust your ambient surroundings independently from the mix. Imagine being able to control the outside sound and safely eliminate the isolation experienced by wearing good sealing in ear monitors.

With the arrival early next year of our Live! series ambient processor, isolation will become a thing of the past. Plug in and experience your own individual sound environment as though you have nothing in your ears!

In other news...

ACS only went and received a 5 G! Rating from Channel 5’s The Gadget Show for it’s T1 Classic In-Ear Monitor. Never been so proud to see our product on the telly getting such a great review. If you missed it you can catch it again here:
